If you are considering an original oil portrait of a person or an animal, please call me (352.377.5979) or use the "Contact Jane" link to send an email so that I can answer any questions that you may have.
In general, I work from reference photographs of the person(s) or animal(s) to be featured in the portrait. Usually, if the subject(s) of the painting are geographically close to my studio, I will schedule a time to do the photography myself. If this is not possible or if the subject is not available (for example, deceased), then I can work with high quality photographs that you may have.
My portraits are painted on the highest quality canvas and archival oil paints that produce a painting that should last for centuries.
Pricing: The prices for my portraits depend upon
- canvas size
- the amount of detail requested . For example, a head-and-shoulders painting is less complex and less expensive than one that includes hands and a greater portion of the body. Also a diffuse background is basic and least expensive whereas a detailed background is more complex and more expensive.
- the number of subjects included within the painting
An illustrative price for a commissioned 11 x 14" head-and-shoulders portrait of one human painted against a diffuse background is $300.
Prices for commissioned animal portraits also vary based upon size and complexity as for the human ones, although generally are slightly less.
Production time: My painting process includes layers of paint that require some drying time between layers. The amount of time for a commission varies depending on size and complexity of the work in addition to my other works in progress. This may vary from several weeks for small paintings to several months for larger ones.
